So the decision this episode for Matt Serra was to figure out which Team Serra member to corner. In the end Serra choose to not corner any of his fighters. That was a quality move on Serra's part. That seems to be the main differences in training styles between the two camps, Team Serra is more of the classic team where as Team Hughes is more of a collection of fighters.
This episode featured the much loved Coaches challange. The challange lead up to the 2 main bouts. This year the coaches had to battle it out bowling. After watching Hughes and Serra bowl Dana White eventually doubled the purse and in the end Matt Serra edged out Matt Hughes. Does this fortell the upcoming match between Hughes and Serra?
Matt Arroyo versus Troy Mandaloniz:
The first round was quick and fast. Matt Arroyo quickly grabbed Troy Mandaloniz and took him to the ground. After a quick scramble and position progression Arroyo submitted Mandaloniz with a straight armbar. The most memorable piece from this match was the absense of the constant screamming from Matt Serra.
George Sotiropoulos versus Richie Hightower:
While most will agree that Richie Hightower was only there for George Sotiropoulos to practice on, Hightower did hold his own for a short while. The first round started with a extended feeling out, with the occassional punch and kick. There was a brief scramble on the fence but nothing was produced by this. Eventually Sotiropoulos would catch a kick from Hightower and bring him to the ground. Sotiropoulos quickly progressed to half
Guard and then to side control once on the ground. After an extended Kimura attempt from side control Sotiropoulos moved closer to a north/south position and quickly sunk the Kimura to win by tapout.
