Coaching book for Dummies....wow that is super harsh, yet that's Serra's take on Hughes coaching skills. Hughes starts this episode criticizing his guy, Tommy Speer, for not showing passion in the octagon. Speer's overall skill might be less than others but his brute strength allows him to impose his will on others. He is the epitome for the Midwestern wrestler. With this fight comes the last chance to bring another win to Team Hughes.
Then there is Team Serra's War Machine....ok the name aside he portrays himself in this episode as not getting the training he needed. As it stands we can safely believe that Serra thinks War Machine is crazy. It was over the top to show War Machine crying about his fathers death, that was a beyond good television and something that could have been left out.
First round and it was a shocking take down by War Machine. Speer sustained a massive cut on his nose within the first 30 seconds of the fight and fought his way out of submission after submission, at one point War Machine has a deep Rear Naked Choke and Speers muscles through it. Half way though and the brute strength of Speer switches the momentum and has War Machine scrambling to stay alive. If Speers could have mounted a more fierce attack in the later seconds of the fight he could have finished War Machine. War Machine took a beating and kept fighting, that was pure heart.
The Second started with Speer catching War Machine's leg and taking him to the ground. Something that was an issue in the training. Speer landed some heavy hands and kept War Machine busy until he passed his
Guard, without opposition. Speer transitioned into full
Mount but was umpahed into a side control. After a scramble and fight for position the round ended with War Machine surviving a deep arm lock and taking a pummeling to the end. The decision goes to Speer for his domination, 20-18 with a unanimous decision.
