Episode 6 Ben Saunders vs Dan Barrera 10 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Ben Saunders the first professed JKD fighter on The Ultimate Fighter. Lets see what he has learned from the Bruce Lee concepts. His first bout is against Barrera. Barrera shows off his uniqueness. The video of him in the bathroom is definitely one for every video blog.

Barrera tends to train to hard with his other teammates so in steps Matt Hughes. After being manhandled by Hughes during practice Barrera emerges with a nasty hand injury. But to Barrera's credit he didn't complain a bit. And on top of this, the day before his fight his wife calls and says she thought she was dying. The pressure this kids is under is amazing. To keep his head in this game shows his extreme dedication.

The first round started with a lot of distance and f. Saunders noticiably would duck his head and look down at Barrera's flurries. Saunders kicks, while landing, did little damage. Barrera quickly got within Saunders range and knocked Saunders to his back. Barrera did nothing to capitalize it and neither fighter wanted a ground game and every time the match went to the ground Saunders waited until Dean would stand the fight up again. 3 times in this round Saunders laid on his back like a dead fish with no attempt by Barrera to follow Saunders to the ground.

The second round starts much the same. Saunders keeps Barrera at bay the entire round. Barrera was dropped with a knee to the head but a quick scramble bring the fight to the feet again. At one point Herb Dean asks whether Barrera wants to quit due to the excessive blood in his eyes, Barrera responds wrong the first time but quickly changes his answer to continue the fight. The round ends with more kicks landing by Saunders which gives the round to him.

The judging on this fight was questionable. The judges give it to Saunders after two rounds. To Matt Hughes credit he questions the judges on their call. Even Dana White says the first was Barrera's. So much so that he gives the fight bonus of $5000 to Barrera as well as Saunders. Barrera has shown in this fight that he will be a fighter to watch in the future.
