UFC 81: Breaking Point  E-mail

UFC 81 UFC 81: Breaking Point put on by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), will  take place on February 2, 2008 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main event will be a bout for the Interim World Heavyweight Championship title between Tim Sylvia and Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira.  With the retirement of Randy Couture, a title vacany was created in the Heavyweight division.

Possibly bigger than the Sylvia vs Nogueira fight is the UFC debut of Brock Lesnar, a former WWE Champion and NCAA national Wrestling champion.  Lesnar is set to battle former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir.   Lesnar comes into the UFC with a record of 1-0 with a quick and impressive win earlier in the year.  Mir is on his comeback tour after a few weak performances following extended time off due to a motorcycle accident in 2004.

“It’s an interesting matchup,” said UFC President Dana White. “Lesnar is a great wrestler, a good athlete, and this is definitely gonna be a big test for him. Frank Mir is a former world champion who is coming off a big win over Antoni Hardonk, and he’s looking to get his career back on track while Lesnar’s looking to walk into the UFC and prove what type of fighter he’s gonna be by trying to knock him off.”
